Slaughter of trees in Cudi Mountains 2020-07-05 14:32:24   ŞIRNAK - Slaughter of trees for the construction of Turkish military stations called “kalekol” recently built, continues non-stop on Cudi Mountain in Turkey's eastern province of Şırnak.   Following the completion of the construction of the 10 new military stations ("Kalekol") on the region of Cudi Mountain of Şırnak province, slaughter of forests have been carried out for months. The slaughter of trees in the villages of Cevizdüzü (Cifane), Anılmış (Gundikê Remo), Kemerli (Gilindor) and Üçkiraz (Nêvava) are conducted by cillage guards. Tens of trucks are sent from the region to the cities close to the Syrian border, such as the provinces of Urfa and Antep.   CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK    Security excuses on one hand and the preparations of thermal power plants on the other, lumbering in the region cannot be prevented.  Villagers are faced with military pressure if they show any opposition. Criminal Record Check (GBT) is carried out at the military checkpoints on the routes leading to the region.  No one is allowed to cross the region, who are not local.   'THE POWER PLANT WILL BE IMPLEMENTED'   A citizen living in Cevizdüzü where the lumbering goes on said, "The trees that we have grown with huge efforts and we need to feed and burn animals with their leaves, are brutally cut. The region is wanted to be left breathless with this forest massacre. According to what we are told, all the forests around the region would be destroyed after the completion of all military stations. They also want to build a huge thermal power plant in Üçkiraz where the lumbering goes on. They will poison the people and the nature here just like they did with the thermal power plant in Silopi."
